Quiet Musings

In The Silence

I didn't shift my feet at all

I didn't make a sound

as children fussed and fiddled

as wreaths lay on the ground

I didn't hear the speeches

I didn't hear the sighs

of men and women gathered

I saw them in their eyes

And in their eyes a stillness

the remnants of despair

I felt a chill run through them

as dampness filled the air

And standing in the silence

as I thought of those before

as children fussed and fiddled

I wished they'd know no war

Context Notes: It was during a Remembrance Day service,

people were quietly muttering nearby as my mind muffled all sound and began to fill with words that spoke of the fog laden ceremony and the atmosphere of love, grief and honor that hung in the silence. When it was over, these words had been arranged.
