Quiet Musings
In The Silence
I didn't shift my feet at all
I didn't make a sound
as children fussed and fiddled
as wreaths lay on the ground

I didn't hear the speeches
I didn't hear the sighs
of men and women gathered
I saw them in their eyes

And in their eyes a stillness
the remnants of despair
I felt a chill run through them
as dampness filled the air

And standing in the silence
as I thought of those before
as children fussed and fiddled
I wished they'd know no war

Context Notes: It was during a Remembrance Day service, people were quietly muttering as I muffled all sound, my mind filling instead with these words.
